Much is Asked
of those to whom Nothing is Given
We note that billions if not trillions are being asked of citizen taxpayers by the Democrats in convention.
Citizen taxpayers have already forked out to bail out Fanny and Freddy and Bear Stearns and whoever/whatever. Incentive packages have gone to to stimulate the economy.
We find it more than
passing strange that our big spenders, three of whom are senators
running for the biggest offices, have not taken one small step
which would at once incentivise the economy and garner some
respect for themselves:
Forgive Student Loans!
In our small area alone we know of recent college graduates, unable to get professional jobs but still hounded for repayment of their student loans, and imagining they must have their cars: graduates who are washing dishes, waiting on tables at Pizza Hut, working McDs and so forth, just to pay off student loans and keep afloat. Many still live at home.
Can any politician imagine what it would do for the economy to unleash those would-be spenders? Can anyone ponder the foolishness of the entire system? Less than reputable establishments work students through various useless program, promising them big bucks when this course is completed. Student loans are taken out and the entire financial procedure turned over to greedy loan collectors. Loan collectors are ruthless and gobble up interest, back by the U.S. Government. It is shameful.
Mainstreet believes firmly that we, like Europeans, pay more than enough taxes to provide educations for our youth to the extent of their potential. That does not mean turning gifted plumbers and electricians into brain surgeons. NO to affirmative action; YES to good educations for all, the best possible.
But today, now, while all are weeping and wailing the economy, think of us, citizen taxpayers, and forgive all students loans.
